{"id":1111,"date":"2018-04-03T13:58:01","date_gmt":"2018-04-03T13:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mlb.ca\/?page_id=1111"},"modified":"2022-06-28T09:53:46","modified_gmt":"2022-06-28T12:53:46","slug":"grading","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mlb.ca\/site\/grading\/","title":{"rendered":"Grading"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MARITIME LUMBER BUREAU<\/strong> &#8211; Lumber Grading Course Prerequisites<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you looking to become a qualified Maritime\nLumber Bureau licensed\ngrader? &nbsp;The lumber grading\ncourse taught at the Maritime\nLumber Bureau&#8217;s &nbsp;training office\nin Amherst, Nova Scotia is a two week course\nwith a <em>limited <\/em>degree of difficulty along with a high level of attention\ndemands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon completion &nbsp;of the course, students\nwill be qualified &nbsp;to grade and grade stamp\n&nbsp;to the structural grades at our member Atlantic facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have an interest in becoming a grader, you must be able\nto comply with the following\ncourse prerequisites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>1. Reading\nand writing skills.\n<\/em>Students are required to read and understand the grading rules as written in the Rule books and work books, and as well complete written\nassignments and written\nexams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>2. Students must be able to read and understand a tape measure.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>3. Students must have a basic\nunderstanding of math with emphasis\non fractions. <\/em>Lumber defects will be studied\nand measured during the course.\nMust have an ability to add, subtract, &nbsp;multiply and divide fractions. Must be able to find an average.\nThe ability to do calculations on a calculator is an asset.\nSee examples below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>4. Students &nbsp;should\nhave an ability\nto retain <\/em>or memorize\n&nbsp;small tables\nor <em>charts, <\/em>such as the different lumber sizes (Table).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1 <em>W&#8217;
